Establish, develop and promote the adoption of industry-leading standards and best practices in the design, implementation and operation of DC microgrids.
Objectives
- Identify areas in need of standardization within the DC microgrid field.
- Develop clear, comprehensive standards focused on interoperability.
- Promote adoption across OEMs and systems integrators.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to keep the standards relevant and effective.
- Foster innovation and continuous improvement within the DC microgrid industry.
Current activities
The committee is collecting and reviewing information and use cases to guide further development of the released Version 1.0 standard, and collaborates with related efforts such as CurrentOS and OCDA.
Workgroups
A core standards group drives the technical document, supported by industry workgroups that contribute market-specific use cases and expertise. Members of each workgroup also belong to the core standards group.
Commercial / Industrial
Use cases for low-voltage (under 1500V) DC and hybrid AC/DC microgrids in and around commercial and industrial buildings — interconnecting and servicing the occupied space, production equipment, outdoors and building services, including the power, interconnect infrastructure, devices and controls required.
Currently defining its mission to span both commercial and industrial use cases. Builds on the Occupied Space Standard v2.0.
Residential
Use cases for DC and hybrid AC/DC microgrids in residential buildings and loads, promoting DC-powered products and providing technical resources to the design community for DC-based residential applications.
Currently being formed; no prior EMerge standard in this category.
ICT Infrastructure
Extends EMerge’s Data/Telecom Center standard with microgrid guidance for data centers and central offices — reviewing the existing standard against current microgrid use cases and adding implementation guidance through an open approach that invites the widest possible participation by manufacturers and service providers.
Considering revisions to the current standard. Builds on the Data/Telecom Center Standard v1.1.
EV Charging
Use cases for DC microgrid infrastructure across EV-charging verticals — fleet, residential, industrial, autonomous and military — with technical design and implementation tools linked to standards requirements.
Currently idle; generally covered by the DC & Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid Standard.
Indoor Agriculture
Use cases for DC microgrid infrastructure in indoor agriculture — grow operations, vertical farming, processing and retail growing — with technical design tools, resources and standards criteria for these applications.
Now forming; no prior standard in this category.
