The future of power is direct current.

Since 2008, EMerge Alliance has brought industry, government and academia together to write the vanguard standards for DC and hybrid AC/DC microgrids — so buildings and communities can run on power that is resilient, economical and sustainable.

We build standards with our members. If your organization makes, designs, or operates electric power, join us.

Why it matters
(01)

Resiliency

Microgrids adapt to changing conditions and recover rapidly from disruption. When the macro-grid falters, DC systems keep hospitals, homes and data flowing.

(02)

Savings

Every AC/DC conversion costs energy. Managing sourcing, storage and use natively in DC delivers the greatest total-cost-of-ownership savings.

(03)

Sustainability

Solar, batteries and modern loads are already DC. Standards make their integration cost-effective and efficient — without conversion waste.

Flagship standard

Every device, speaking the same language.

The Interoperability Data Model (IDM) Standard — Version 1.2, released 2025 — defines an open JSON schema for the power-flow characteristics of every device in a microgrid. It is open-source licensed, publicly reviewed on GitHub, and feeds the RE+Source PRO product catalog connecting OEMs with designers.

An industry first: non-proprietary device data, readable by both traditional and AI-enabled design tools.

Membership is how the work gets done.

Equipment manufacturers, architecture and engineering firms, energy consultants, utilities, building owners, regulators, government and academics — one organizational membership, unlimited participants.

Members influence the standards, see them first, and sit in the committees where the grid’s next layer is being specified.
